Dr. Cingel’s Implant Journey

Dr. Cingel’s placed his first implant during his dental residency in 2005. He began offering implant placement in private practice starting with simple, straight forward implant cases and moving on to more complicated and difficult cases. With further clinical advances and continuing education courses, more complex bone growing and gum grafting procedures were added to achieve long-term implant success. Even though implant placement has been in practice since the early 80’s, it’s taken 40 years to understand why most implants experienced bone loss after placement. This early bone loss exposes the rough-surfaced implant to bacteria and the implant slowly fails in 10-15% of cases. Learning how to prevent this is one reason why Dr. Cingel created the 15 year implant guarantee. He knows the implant will last.

Why did it take long to understand why most implants fail over time? Simply stated, there are so many different design “gimmicks” that implant companies engineered into their implants. Researchers focused too many studies comparing different implant systems to prove superiority that they never fully looked at how biological variables affected long-term success. In other words, research was funded primarily to be able to sell proprietary implant designs by proving their designs to be superior.

One implant design has been proven to be superior, the conical connection. But even that design could lead to bone loss if you do not properly place it to the correct bone depth or without proper gum tissue support.

With many more general practitioners learning how to place implants, Dr. Cingel has come across an increased frequency of failed implant cases. Combined with the new information on how to successfully place long term implants and observing a increase in complications from cost reduced implants and inexperienced placement, Dr. Cingel decided to created the Kingston Implant Center.

The Kingston Implant Center was not created as a marketing ploy, but to create awareness for those who value longevity and predictability with their oral health. The center also functions to both inform the public of the realities of implant restoration and to raise the standards of implant tooth replacement. Dr. Cingel attempts to do this as honestly as he can, using the best available evidence.
