Biologically Compatible Materials
Are there materials better than others for implant crowns?
Yes. When a dentist uses the most biologically compatible materials, you create a strong bond between the gum and the implant crown to essentially seal out bacteria. Bacteria growth on the implant is a major reason an implant fails in the long-term.
What materials are used at the Kingston Implant Center?
Titanium and ultra polished zirconia. Both materials are so biocompatible that both are used as material sources for implants placed into bone. Most offices use titanium, but if they use zirconia, it is usually covered in a ceramic glaze which gum tissues do not like. We make sure there is no glaze at the gum level so the gum can adhere to the zirconia and seal out bacteria.
